Good morning, With temperatures continuing to rise, we want everyone to enjoy Cheshire’s beautiful outdoor spaces - but please be aware of the dangers that open water can present.
Know the risks Water can be much more dangerous than it looks: • Strong undercurrents can be hidden beneath calm surfaces • Water temperatures can drop suddenly just below the surface • Cold water shock can quickly affect breathing, strength and movement
If someone is in trouble Call 999 and ask for the Fire and Rescue Service Give a clear location (what3words can help) Remember: SHOUT, REACH, THROW - DON’T GO • Shout - encourage them to float on their back • Reach - use something long like a stick or branch • Throw - give them something that floats • Don’t go - never enter the water yourself
If you find yourself struggling in water • Float on your back and try to relax • Control your breathing - the shock will pass • Once calm, call for help or swim to safety For more safety advice please visit - Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service - Water safety | ||||||
